House District 24 faces real challenges—just like any community.
From housing costs and public safety to education and economic opportunity, the issues we’re facing didn’t happen overnight, and they won’t be solved by one person alone. But when we come together as neighbors, listen to one another, and stay engaged, we can build real solutions.
I believe District 24 is strongest when we work together—across neighborhoods, backgrounds, and experiences—to get things done.
Housing & Rental
ISSUE:
Many households in House District 24 are now “cost burdened,” meaning they spend over 30% of their income on rent, and large share spend over 50%
SOLUTIONS:
Create a district-backed emergency rent fund for families facing short-term crisis
Limit extreme or surprise rent hikes
Expand Right-to-Counsel to renters have legal help in eviction court
Public Safety & Crime
ISSUE:
House District 24 sits in a busy part of Albuquerque with major arterials, commercial corridors, apartments, and nearby employment and school hubs. That mix brings opportunity-but also very specific public-safety challenges residents feel every day
SOLUTIONS:
Expand non-police mobile crisis teams for behavior health crisis
Use hot-spot and repeat-call data to assign consistent teams to problem corridors
Neighborhood micro-grants for block watches, clean-ups, and safety events.
Education
ISSUE:
House District 24 includes families with young children, teens, college students, adult learners, and educators. Residents consistently raise concerns that cut across k-12 quality, youth supports, and pathways to college and careers.
SOLUTIONS::
Fund high-dosage tutoring (small groups 3x/week) in elementary, middle and high schools
Advocate for competitive pay, loan repayment programs and housing assistance for educators
Fund paid internships and apprenticeships with healthcare, labs and local businesses
